Tell us a bit about yourself?

My Name is Onyinye, I’m a Wellness Coach and a Yoga instructor.

Why did you start practicing yoga?

Curiosity got me started. I found a yoga page on instagram in 2013 and I was captivated by the poses then I thought to try and as I began it became the beginning of my self discovery.

Tell us about your Yoga teacher training?

I had my training from S-vyasa yoga university and research institute, prashanti kutiram, Benguluru, India. It was one of the best moments of my life filled with so much love, peace and oneness.

How do you build relationships with your students?

I encourage them to be themselves while in class, of-course during yoga practice as well as creating a warm environment conducive for them to be relaxed and open minded to talk about anything.

What is your typical day like?

Every day is a gift and a privilege to be alive so I’m grateful. I like to meditate and set clear intentions for the day. Do some yoga. Have my tea. I love green tea!. Listen to soul music or a motivational speech… then the rest can follow.

How do you stay up to date in the yoga industry?

Yoga is a personal journey so I’m not bothered by others or “industry” like you mentioned. Every thing is unfolding gradually through the practice, some times it’s smooth and other times the body says stop and breathe and that’s how it should be. The practice of yoga is peace to oneself and in turn to the world. So I aim to bring peace to self as I give peace to others through yoga practice and that’s a great update for every day.

How do you ensure the safety of your students?

Everyone is safe to practice yoga under the guidance of a certified yoga instructor.

How would you respond to a student with an injury?

There are modified yoga postures for certain persons with health conditions or they can as well avoid a certain posture due to injury or health condition. In this case the person will lay down facing up in a complete surrender posture and just focus on breathing.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced as a Yoga teacher?

There is a big misconception on some People on the subject “yoga”. So what I do is try to correct their believe just to create for them the right mindset before teaching them yoga.

How will your students describe you?

Free, calm and passionate.

What styles do you enjoy teaching? & how has yoga changed your life?

I teach Hatha yoga. With yoga I have built a strong will power. I understand that I am powerful and a creator of anything as long as I can think about it. I have the power to choose between pleasant and unpleasant. I am strong physically , emotionally , psychologically , spiritually, socially and otherwise… I have no time guaranteed so I try to live one breathe at a time enjoying every moment.

How can you tell you’ve taught a successful class?

I get a big thank you and smile, that means a lot to me.

What do you like to do outside work?

I enjoy rest when I find one. I’m a lover of nature and beauty so I indulge. I like to have fun too.

What is your greatest strength? And how does it help you to be a more effective teacher?

Love is my greatest strength. I speak from a sincere corner of my heart that wishes well to whom ever I may be with. So when I teach it’s almost like everyone is doing me a favor just by listening and following my instructions.

Where do you see yourself in 5years?

I can clearly see a big picture. I have certain goals to achieve as I am heading towards becoming a certify Holistic Wellness practitioner, a Wellness consultant and a life coach.

Why would you recommend yoga to anyone?

Life is about balance and Yoga is the only form of practice that brings balance between the body, mind and emotion. That’s when we can be in control of our lives and have peace.
