Tell is about you and your Brand?

My brand flossy beauty is a skin care and beauty brand created in partnership with NU SKIN. We stock their products and sell to customers within the European market using social media marketing. It’s one of my greatest achievements yet and I’m excited to see where flossy beauty will be in the next five years.

What is beauty to you?

Beauty to me is a lot of things. It’s fun because I can change my looks three times a day if that’s what I’m looking for. It’s inspiring because I can see beauty in almost everything whether it’s a view or person or flowers, and that’s what I find to be truly magical about it – beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What inspired you to start your own Cosmetics line?

In my teenage years I suffered with a lot of dermal problems like under-skin spots, textured skin, hyperpigmentation and blemishes. Instead of confronting these issues I hid behind makeup which only led to more skin concerns. Ever since then skin care has become one of the most important parts of my routine! It’s all fun with the cut creases and liners until constant use of makeup is telling on the skin and this is one of the areas I’d really love to help with. Which is why I delved into this industry through network marketing.

What was the hardest part in taking a step to start Flossy Beauty?

When starting a business nothing can prepare you for the failure because it’s the one thing you experience the most. People will say no from all corners but you have to be consistent in your goals and tell yourself yes even when everyone else is in doubt. Coming from a strenuous relationship, one of the things I was concerned about was talking to people. I felt very odd because I thought “no one cares what I do” but the reality is you need to show people why they should care and so I’d say that’s been the hardest part for me, realising that I have as much right as anyone else to share my passion and skill set with the world.

Choose your favorite cosmetic product and sell it to me?

The lumispa is my favourite product because it keeps my skin smooth which allows for flawless makeup application. If you have textured skin, or under-skin bumps, this device will transform your skin and have you feeling baby smooth.

What are the challenges you face most in the cosmetics industry?

Lack of representation in brands is still a very huge issue! As much as we have brands releasing shades for every skin tone I still believe the quality of makeup for women of colour can be better.l especially base makeup (foundation and concealer) Maybe one day I’d have developed a formula that’ll give us all that glass skin look. Keep your eyes peeled lol!

How do you create the perfect lipstick shades to match diverse skin tones?

Swatching is so important. I tend to use adobe colour to create new swatch palettes! This helps with inspiration and any marketing projects I might have for my products. Like the powerlips fluid the rouge and nude collection have shades for everyone which were developed by 75 in-house scientists swatching and creating the perfect shade and formula for our liquid lipsticks.

How challenging has it been for you bringing you brand to the market?

Testing the waters in any market is never easy. But one thing I love about the European market is that the statistics and research are all available to you. I struggled quite a bit at first to build rapport with customers as there was no connection. I find that being personal and having an aesthetic has really worked for flossy beauty. A lot of our regulars are with us become of the intimate and personal touches we add. It’s not just about selling a product but an experience too. Some people want the products others want to join my business and market products so how I relate to my customers is always my number one priority.

What response have you gotten so far? Both positive and negative?

I’ve had a lot of encouragement, people enquiring and people purchasing so it’s a nice balance across the spectrum. I try not to let the negativity affect me as I know most people laugh at you until they’re laughing with you. So I take it and use it to fuel my passion and motivate me. There have been a lot of no’s which I expected from the start but it’s the yes’s  that kept and keep me going!!
